A Video Call No Longer Proves Who You Are Talking To
An AI video model fooled almost half of the people who spoke to it in a test this week, so any firm that checks a client's identity over a video call needs a second check that AI cannot fake.
Who this is for
- Finance brokers
- Legal firms
- Accounting firms
- Consultants
- Trades
- Clinics
Clear takeaways
- Seeing a face on a video call is no longer enough to prove who someone is. Pair it with a check that AI cannot fake.
- Fraud tools and useful tools are arriving at the same time: a convincing AI face and very cheap, accurate call notes in the same week.
- Transcription is turning into a cheap, standard feature. Do not pay a large premium for it.
Do this now
- Write down every step where your firm accepts a video call as proof of identity or authority: onboarding, change of bank details, release of funds.
- For each one, add a second check outside the call. For example, ring back on a number you already hold, or confirm through your existing electronic ID check.
- Tell your team in one line: any request to change bank details or move money gets a call-back on a known number, whatever the video looked like.
- Ask your phone system or CRM provider whether they offer call transcription, what it costs per user, and where the recordings and text are stored.
- If you already record calls, check that your privacy notice says so before you add transcription.
